Our Story: Bringing Persian Flavours to Winnipeg, Manitoba
Tehran Market & Cafe was founded by Maryam Nadmeh, an Iranian-Canadian entrepreneur who has become one of the most recognized figures in Winnipeg's Iranian diaspora. Maryam's journey began with a catering business serving authentic Iranian food to the local community, which grew into a Persian grocery store and eventually expanded into the full-service restaurant that exists today at 1875 Pembina Hwy #8, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2G7.
The restaurant is celebrated for its fresh halal kabobs — chicken and beef marinated in saffron — served with fragrant saffron rice or pita bread, alongside a broad menu of traditional Persian stews (khoresh), soups, vegetarian dishes, and house-made Persian saffron ice cream. All meats are halal and prepared in-house with quality ingredients and authentic Persian spice blends. The cozy, warmly decorated interior incorporates Persian cultural elements, creating an intimate and welcoming atmosphere for diners of all backgrounds.
Beyond food, Tehran Market & Cafe also operates as an Iranian grocery store, stocking Persian spices, nuts, Iranian pistachios, baklava, Persian sweets, cookies, and premium basmati rice — making it a one-stop destination for Winnipeg's Iranian diaspora and food lovers alike. The restaurant hosts regular events including live music (jazz jams), wine tasting evenings, and community gatherings. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the restaurant, noting that the team at Tehran Market represents "the best of Winnipeg's Iranian community."
At Tehran Market & Cafe, every dish tells a story rooted in centuries of Persian culinary tradition. From our kitchen to your table, we create experiences that celebrate the rich flavours of Iran — saffron-infused kabobs, slow-cooked stews, and the warm hospitality that defines Persian dining culture.
